LORAIN -- A man was killed Friday morning in a rail yard accident. No identity has been released or how the accident happened.
Republic Steel released this statement:
We regret to announce that there has been a fatality at our Lorain Plant involving a long-time Republic Steel employee who was killed in a rail yard accident late this morning. Local police and emergency personnel are on the scene. We are in the process of contacting his family and want to express our gratitude to the employees and the safety forces that responded to this incident.
This is shocking and tragic news for all of us but especially for the family, friends and colleagues of our employee. We immediately began an investigation and we are cooperating with local authorities and with our own risk management team to determine what happened, and what we can do to make sure something like this does not happen again. All production at the Lorain Plant has been stopped for the day and all employees have been sent home.
