Man calls 911 to complain about Subway order in Richfield

A man called 911 to complain about his order at the Subway at the Pilot Travel Center in Richfield.

RICHFIELD, Ohio — A man called 911 earlier this month to complain about how he was treated while ordering a sandwich at a Subway in Richfield.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at the Subway located at the Pilot Travel Center at 5219 Brecksville Road. The police report states that the man called 911 and told the dispatcher that he went into the Subway to get food, ordered his sandwich and went to the drink cooler. Upon returning from the cooler, the sandwich was made up and wrapped at the counter.

According to the police report, the caller was upset that he was never asked what he would like on the sandwich and whether or not he would like it toasted. A verbal argument between the caller and an employee reportedly ensued, with the caller telling police that he felt he was treated wrong because he is Black.

Two officers went to the Subway and spoke with an employee, who told them that the caller had ordered an Italian sub with lettuce and tomato and walked over to the cooler. When he returned to the counter, the sub was already made, with the employee stating that the customer then became upset because he wasn't asked if he wanted the sandwich toasted.

The employee said that the customer then picked up the sub and threw it in the trash and told the employee to make it again. The employee said that he then asked the customer to leave the store.

The caller was advised that he should contact Subway's corporate office and make a formal complaint if he feels he was treated unfairly. No additional police action was taken.
