NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — A North Ridgeville High School student was arrested after officials learned of a "serious situation" that happened overnight.

In a letter sent to families, North Ridgeville City Schools Superintendent Roxann Ramsey-Caserio said the North Ridgeville Police Department was notified of a "potential threat made on social media by a high school student" allegedly indicating violence toward the high school.

North Ridgeville Chief of Police Mike Freeman told 3News that the threat was made over Snapchat by a student who allegedly threatened a school shooting.

The threat was reported to North Ridgeville police by the FBI, who was initially notified by Snapchat.

"Upon making contact with the student, she stated she had no intentions of carrying out the threat and we found she had no direct access to firearms," Freeman told 3News.

The student was charged with inducing panic and was taken to the Lorain County Detention Home.

"We are incredibly grateful to our vigilant community for promptly reporting the situation and extend our sincere thanks to both the North Ridgeville Police Department and the FBI for their immediate and effective response, ensuring the safety of our students and staff," said Ramsey-Caserio.

Ramsey-Caserio also assured district families that no one is in danger following the alleged threat.

"Please be assured that no one is in danger due to this incident, and our school will proceed with normal operations today. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority."
