BEACHWOOD, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking for help from the public on improvements at the I-271 Cedar/Brainard interchange.
The project, which is currently in its developmental stage, suggests that it will switch the I-271 northbound express lane entrance and exit near Fairmount Blvd.
The previous entrance to the express lanes south of Fairmount Blvd. will become an exit to allow drivers more time to merge lanes to get off at the Cedar Rd./Brainard Rd. exit ramp. As a result of the changes, the previous express lane exit north of Fairmount Blvd. will become an entrance.
Additionally, the project will also add storage capacity to the I-271 northbound exit ramp at Cedar Rd./Brainard Rd. A traffic island will be added between the I-271 northbound exit ramp and Cedar Road, as well as drainage improvement.
ODOT officials say that the project is estimated to begin in August 2024, with completion expected in fall 2025. During the project, the I-271 northbound local lane ramp to the I-271 north express lanes will be closed for 90 days.
The project is expected to cost $5.5 million.
