MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a fatal single-vehicle crash in Mansfield.
OSHP officials say the accident happened on Friday, Oct. 20, at around 5:23 p.m., on State Route 430 when a 2016 blue Ford F-150 "failed to negotiate a curve."
The truck traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected and went off the left side of the road, striking a tree.
82-year-old Gearold Smith of Mansfield was taken by EMS to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
State Route 430 was temporarily closed following the crash, but has since reopened.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation. Mifflin Twp. Fire and EMS and Valley’s towing assisted at the scene.
