Ohio State Highway Patrol: Motorcycle driver killed in hit-skip in Ashtabula County

The driver of the other vehicle in the crash, 22-year-old Sara Murkens, fled the scene on foot and has yet to be found.

ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — Editor's note: The video above is from a previous story involving the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that involved two vehicles on State Route 7 near State Route 84 in Ashtabula County.

The driver of a GMC Sierra, identified as 22-year-old Sara Murkens of Springboro, PA, was driving in a private drive on the east side of SR 7. As she turned left onto SR 7, she entered the path of Billy Hosier Jr., 31 of Conneaut, OH, striking Hosier. He was ejected from his Suzuki motorcycle.

Hosier was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by medical officials.

Murkens, along with her two passengers, fled the scene of the crash on foot. The passengers were identified as Joseph Weeks, 31, and Katherine Murkens, 53. Weeks and Katherine Murkens were eventually located a short time after the investigation began. Weeks was transported to University Hospital Conneaut with minor injuries. Katherine Murkens was not injured.

Sara Murkens, the driver of the GMC Sierra, has yet to be located.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash reconstruction unit, investigative unit and aviation section are assisting with the investigation of this incident.
