The overnight crash happened at the intersection of state Route 165 and U.S. Route 62 in Goshen Township. Officials say that a Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 62 when it entered the intersection on a green traffic signal and struck the Ford Explorer police cruiser that was traveling westbound on State Route 165 on a red traffic signal.

The police cruiser, which was responding to a crash, went off the right side of the roadway and overturned multiple times.

The driver of the Nissan Altima has been identified as a 61-year-old woman from Salem. Both she and the officer are in stable condition, according to a press release.

OSHP noted that the officer was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and that the driver of the Nissan Altima was not.

The intersection of state Route 165 and U.S. Route 62 was closed for a brief period of time, but has since reopened.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Green Township Fire Department and EMS, Goshen Township Police Department and Salem Police Department.
