SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) - The parents of a malnourished 18-month-old boy who died in northern Ohio a year ago will spend several years behind bars.
An Erie County judge sentenced the boy's father and mother to five years in prison and one year in jail on Monday. The judge is allowing the mother to serve both of her sentences at the same time, meaning she'll end up serving less time.
Both James Brothers and Adrienne Bartholomew pleaded guilty to child endangerment in August. Their son died of malnutrition last November near Vermilion.
Social service workers removed the couple's other children from their home. Four of them who were underweight were treated for malnutrition.
The Sandusky Register reports both parents made statements in court and said they miss their children.
