SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio — An 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital after he allegedly crashed into a Sheffield Lake home following a police chase that started in Sheffield Village.
Sheffield Village police say the incident began on Friday morning at 3:44 a.m. when an officer attempted to stop a 2014 Jeep Compass for excessive speed on Abbe Road. The vehicle failed to comply and fled from the officer, leading to a chase.
The pursuit crossed into Sheffield Lake, where the officer terminated the chase. However, the driver continued traveling north on Abbe Road and crossed over Lake Road onto a residential street, crashing into a house.
The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by Sheffield Village fire and Sheffield Lake fire. In addition, the driver was flown to MetroHealth in Cleveland in stable condition with serious injuries.
The crash caused extensive damage to the home's garage. Police told 3News that one woman was home at the time of the crash but was not injured.
At this time, the accident remains under investigation by the Sheffield Village Police Department.
