SOLON, Ohio — The Solon High School community is mourning the loss of a science teacher who unexpectedly passed away this week.
Solon City School District officials tell 3News that 40-year-old Crystal Cespedes passed away in her sleep early Thursday evening.
Following her death, Solon City Schools Superintendent Fred Bolden released the following statement to district families:
Tragedy has struck our school community. Earlier this evening, one of our Solon High School teachers, Crystal Cespedes, passed away unexpectedly. Ms. Cespedes was a beloved science teacher and club adviser and will be deeply and profoundly missed by us all.
In collaboration with mental health professionals, we have implemented a plan to help our high school students and staff receive the support they need tomorrow and through the weekend. Our district crisis and counseling team, which includes mental health professionals from all of our schools, will be at SHS all day.
This is a sad night for us all, and I wanted you to be aware of this loss. Please keep Ms. Cespedes’ family and our high school community in your thoughts and prayers.
A visitation will be taking place at Kindrich-Mchugh Steinbauer Funeral Home in Solon on Wednesday, May 3, from 3-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, her family is asking individuals to consider supporting a GoFundMe page that has been created to help fund a future education for her 9-year-old son. Anyone interested in donating can click HERE.
