ELYRIA, Ohio — Northeast Ohioans came together on Tuesday to raise money for a great cause that benefits children fighting cancer.
3News' Lindsay Buckingham had the opportunity to serve as the master of ceremonies at the Special Spaces Cleveland Holiday Tea lunch in Elyria, an event that raises money to help give dream bedroom makeovers to kids who are undergoing treatment.
"When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it can change their world. The activities that they used to enjoy may look and feel different. They may not be able to do the things they really love. They don’t play soccer, ride bikes, go to prom or attend school," the Special Spaces website says.
According to organizers, this year's lunch raised more than $13,000 thanks to the generosity of donors- money that will go directly toward helping kids in need.
"Children with cancer spend a lot of time away from others; time in the hospital, visiting different doctors, receiving painful treatments, feeling tired and nauseous, and often times being isolated," the organization says in a description on its website. "Our goal is to provide these children with a special space where they can not only sleep, but also play, heal and spend time away from the challenges of their illness."
Special Spaces has chapters in 13 different states around the U.S. If you would like to learn more about the group and the work they do, click HERE.
