CLEVELAND — One of Northeast Ohio's largest and oldest non-profits, The Centers, has announced that they have purchased the former St. Vincent Charity Medical Office Building in Cleveland.
As a result of the purchase, The Centers plans to relocate their headquarters to their new building on East 22nd Street in Cleveland's central neighborhood. The new headquarters will have administrative offices and a health center, which will be focused on providing integrated care to people with behavioral health conditions.
“We believe that the new Central location provides a much better setting and accessibility to integrated healthcare for individuals living with behavioral health conditions,” said Lisa B. Forbes, Board Chair at The Centers. “Based on our recent study findings, the new site will be more accessible to our existing patients who rely on public transit. We will also seek to provide care to new patients by engaging the people who live in the neighborhood through various community-based outreach services and partnerships with local organizations and community leaders.”
The Centers says that the move reflects their plan to "successfully integrate and increase access to our services that significantly improve outcomes and address inequities for the people and communities we serve."
"The closing of St. Vincent’s Medical Center created a social services gap in the Central Neighborhood," said Eric L. Morse, President and CEO at The Centers. "Our goal is to become an anchor institution by providing accessible, high-quality services that address the unique needs of the residents, joining with residents and community partners to foster a healthier and more vibrant community." Additionally, after conducting a cost analysis, it was determined that the funding needed to renovate the existing Healthcare Center at 4500 Euclid Avenue was twice the amount anticipated for the needed renovations of the Medical Office Building.
Officials say that renovations are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
Following the renovations, the building will contain an expanded clinical care space, behavioral health care services, and support services.
“As a member of the City Council, my primary objective is to serve the constituents of Ward 5 by advocating for the provision of resources and support necessary for our community's growth and prosperity,” said Richard A. Starr, Councilman, Ward 5. “I am pleased to announce that The Centers have established their headquarters within Ward 5, a significant step toward meeting our community's needs. The Centers have been working towards providing essential resources and services for over 50 years, and their commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families is admirable. The Centers' efforts have helped countless individuals combat the challenges posed by poverty, inadequate education and job training, drug addiction, physical health concerns, and mental health issues. Welcome home!”
