WOOSTER, Ohio — If your child rides the bus to one of the schools in the Wooster City district, they may see a few new faces from time to time.
On Tuesday, the Wooster City School District announced that it is partnering with the Wooster Police Department as officers will randomly ride school buses.
This joint effort between the school district and the Wooster Police Department has the goal of providing positive interactions with students and enhance safety/security of school buses.
“We want our students to build positive and authentic relationships with our dedicated police officers and we are, collectively, always looking to enhance the safety and security of our bus routes,” said Wooster City School District Superintendent Michael Tefs.
There will not be a set schedule for officers riding buses. It will happen occasionally as time and schedules permit. The police officers riding the bus will be in addition to the school resource officers that are already in the school buildings.
“Randomly, over the course of the school year, a Wooster police officer will ride on a school bus in an effort to have yet another avenue where we can positively interact with the kids in the district we serve,” said Assistant Wooster Police Chief Scott Rotolo. “This is another way the WPD and Wooster City School District can partner to provide positive experiences with the police.”
