An 18-year-old is accused of assaulting a Rittman police officer during an altercation,Sunday.
According to reports, officials began searching for 18-year-old Austin Walker after he allegedly assault a pedestrian.
Reports indicate that the victim was walking home when he found a wallet on the ground. Inside the wallet he found an ID belonging to Walker.
In an effort to return the wallet to Walker, who was walking just ahead, the victim was allegedly struck the victim in the face three to four times.
The victim reported the incident which lead police on a foot pursuit of Walker near South Main Street.
As officials approached Walker, the noticed that he was sweating profusely.
Walker was ordered to sit on the curb several times for his safety and failed to follow commands.
At that time, Walker assaulted one of the responding officers. He lunged at the officer and began choking her.
He was tackled by another officer. Following a brief scuffle, Walker was placed into handcuffs.
Officials suspected that Walker had been using drugs; He was slurring his speech and drifting in and out of consciousness.
At this time Walker was evaluated and then transported to Wadsworth Rittman Hospital.
Walker was cleared by hospital officials and then release back into police custody.
He was then taken to the Wayne County Justice Center.
