Two Westerville, Ohio, police officers were shot and killed Saturday afternoon, according to NBC4 WCMH in Columbus.
A suspect in the incident was wounded and transported to an area hospital.
The officers were identified as Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering. According to Westerville Police Chief Joe Morbitzer, the two possessed more than 40 combined years of service in the force.
“These were two of the best we had, this was their calling and they did it right, they knew how to do policing the right way, both of them.”
According to WCMH, the two officers responded to an address at the 300 block of Crosswind Drive following a 911 hang-up around 11:30 a.m. They were "immediately met by gunfire," according to Morbitzer.
On Saturday afternoon, president Donald Trump took to Twitter to give his condolences to the families of the fallen officers.
