BUCYRUS, Ohio — Cleanup efforts are underway after strong storms swept through portions of Ohio on Wednesday – and we’re getting a closer look at the aftermath in the Bucyrus community.
“Bucyrus residents! Please stay off the city streets,” the police department said on Facebook Wednesday night. “There are multiple lines and trees down. It is dangerous to be out and about right now. Do not call the Police Department unless you have an emergency.”
Bucyrus is located in Crawford County just west of Mansfield.
Kevin Myers owns a store in Bucyrus, telling 3News about the frantic phone call he got from his wife.
“She called me screaming,” Myers said. “I thought she was just upset; the weather scared her. But turns out that the neighbor’s roof came off and came through the front of our store.”
The area of West Charles Street was among the locations that experienced extensive damage.
3News’ Matt Wintz said a survey team will investigate this weather event to determine if it was an actual tornado that impacted the Bucyrus area.
Heavy storm damage was also reported in Northeast Ohio as Windham residents in Portage County are also cleaning up from the severe weather.
