SANDUSKY -- The secret is out…

Cedar Point has confirmed there will be another new thrill ride added in the 2014 season -- SlingShot.

News of this "secret" ride surfaced recently when a filing with the Federal Aviation Administration indicated a "2014 Sling Shot Ride" would be under construction between March 7 and June 7.

According to Cedar Point officials, the SlingShot will secure riders in an open-air, two-person capsule, which is then launched nearly 360 feet into the sky at speeds up to 60 mph.

That height will be the second-highest point of the Cedar Point skyline -- just below the 420-foot Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster.

After a brief feeling of weightlessness, park officials say riders will fall back toward the ground before catapulting back up and down until the capsule comes to rest back at the launching point.

Manufactured by Funtime in Australia, SlingShot will be located near the Gemini racing roller coaster and will be an extra cost.

The exact price to ride SlingShot was not released.

Last August, park officials announced two other attractions for the 2014 season -- Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles -- in addition to changes at Camp Snoopy and renovations at Hotel Breakers.

But there's much more coming to the Sandusky scream park this season than previously revealed.

Along with the trio of fresh scream machines, there is a batch of brand new dining options coming to the park this summer:

  • A full-service Starbucks will be placed in the space formerly held by Donut Time along the park's main Midway.

  • An Auntie Anne's and Cinnabon will be placed in Challenge Park (near the Soak City water park).

  • Chickie's and Pete's Sports Bar will take the space formerly known as Game Day Grille near the Blue Streak roller coaster. Recently named as one of the "Ten Best Sports Bars" in the country by USA Today, Chickie's and Pete's will feature local sports memorabilia and signature menu items such as Philly Cheese Steaks, Lisa's Blonde Lobster Pie and their legendary Crabfries.

  • A Cocoa-Cola Freestyle station and Yogurt Plus will be placed near the new Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles family rides on the Gemini Midway.

"These additions show our commitment to offering our guests the best in family fun for the 2014 season," stated Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. "With a collection of 72 rides, including 17 roller coasters, three kids' areas, live shows, unique and interesting places to eat and spend the night, Cedar Point offers something fun for everyone."

Cedar Point opens for the 2014 season on Saturday, May 10.

Meanwhile, Kings Island is putting the finishing touches on its new attraction for 2014 -- Banshee -- the world's longest inverted roller coaster.
