COLUMBUS, Ohio — Few things are more painful than waiting in line at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Now, the state of Ohio is attempting to relieve some of the annoyance.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio BMV on Monday announced a new pilot program that allows customers to check in online before their visit to select BMV locations. After checking in, customers have a four-hour window to arrive at their local deputy registrar location, check in at a kiosk and claim their spot in line.
According to a news release issued by DeWine's office, the BMV will monitor wait times to improve customer service. If the pilot program is successful, other BMVs across the state will receive the system.
Using the system is not required, as walk-in customers are still accepted at all BMV locations.
The pilot is now active for the following BMV locations:
- 22125 Rockside Road, Bedford
- 104 W. Spring Valley Road, Centerville
- 1583 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus
- 112 Dillmont Drive, Columbus
