Man charged after woman found dead in southeast Columbus apartment fire

Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter said a fire started in a unit of a three-story apartment building on Winslow Drive.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities charged a man a week after a woman was found dead in a southeast Columbus apartment fire.

Salvador Dumond, 46, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with aggravated arson in the death of 53-year-old Edith Saintilus.

Firefighters were called to Columbus Park Apartments on Winslow Drive on the morning of June 27. While extinguishing the fire, firefighters found a woman's body, later identified by the Columbus Division of Police as Saintilus.

Columbus police say arson investigators found "a number of circumstances" that led them to believe Saintilus' death was suspicious. The Franklin County Coroner's Office said her manner of death as homicide.

During the investigation, detectives concluded that Dumond set the fire at the apartment. Detectives are working with the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office on additional charges, including murder.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
