COLUMBUS, Ohio — It’s official. Ohio is staying red.
President Donald Trump has claimed Ohio in the 2020 election against Democratic candidate Joe Biden, according to NBC News. It’s the second time Ohio has voted in favor of Trump, after he defeated Hillary Clinton in the Buckeye State back in 2016.
“Ohio, a tremendous state, a big state, I love Ohio," President Trump said around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday as he addressed his supporters. "We won by 8.1 percent.”

In the weeks leading up to the election, President Trump made multiple visits throughout Ohio – including an Oct. 24 stop in Circleville. During that rally, President Trump reminded the crowd that he previously won Ohio by 8 points and could win again.
“If I don’t seem like a politician it’s because I am not a politician... I am fighting harder for you than any other President,” Trump said.
The day before the election, President Trump posted the following message on Twitter about the state of Ohio: “No President in history has done more for OHIO than President Trump.”
His most recent visit to Cleveland happened in late September when he was in town for the first debate against Biden.
The final NBC News / Wall Street Journal poll of the 2020 election season, which was released Sunday, Nov. 1, showed Biden leading President Trump by 10 points nationally. The latest Quinnipiac poll showed Biden was holding a five-point lead (48% to 43%) in Ohio in the final days before the election.
The state carries 18 of the 270 total electoral votes needed to win the presidency. The winner of Ohio has gone on to win every presidential election since 1964.
