CLEVELAND — Heads up, shoppers! Elsie the Cow is back in the Buckeye State!

Borden dairy announced its return to Ohio this week after leaving the area 24 years ago.

The company will operate out of two plants -- in Cleveland and Cincinnati -- with approximately 350 Ohio-based workers.

"Ohio played a significant role in Borden's history, so we are overjoyed to return and receive such incredible support from the community," said Chief Executive Officer Tony Sarsam.

Borden’s classic white milks and flavored drinks are already available across the state, while additional Borden products will be released later this year.

“Borden left the state after a change of ownership in 1995 and reappeared in Ohio schools this past year,” company officials said.

Borden, which was founded in 1857, had once been headquartered in Columbus.

“Ohio residents are likely to recognize Borden's beloved Elsie the Cow, one of America's best-known brand mascots,” company officials said. “First introduced by Borden in 1936, Elsie was named one of the top 10 advertising icons of the 20th century by AdAge.”

The company is currently headquartered in Dallas, operating 13 milk processing plants and nearly 100 branches across the country.
