COLUMBUS, Ohio — An emu’s grand escape from a Union County property led to an interesting, adventure-filled Friday morning for deputies.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook that the bird was found strutting around Maple Ridge Road in Allen Township last week. Deputies attempted to detain the bird while the owner was being located.
To no one’s surprise, the bird was uncooperative.
Body camera footage shows a deputy trying to lure the bird into an enclosed trailer using dog food, bird food and peanuts.
Luckily, the owner showed up a short time later and was able to hoist the emu into the trailer.
“Not my first rodeo,” she said.
The owner, who lives nearby, told deputies that the emu managed to jump out of a 6-foot electric fence and escape.
