Group organizes petition to raise Ohio's minimum wage

The group has filed a petition with the Attorney General's office.

OHIO, USA — A group trying to raise Ohio's minimum wage is a step closer to bringing the issue to voters. 

Ohioans for Raising the Wage is collecting signatures to ensure their request makes it on the ballot for voters to see this November. 

"We are proposing a ballot measure that secures a wage raise that over time, will improve the lives of hardworking families," their website reads. 

The petition proposes to gradually raise the current minimum wage to $13 an hour by 2025. Under the proposal, the first increase would be from the current $8.70 an hour to $9.60 an hour in 2021. 

In the years following, the wage would continue to increase by 85 cents for four years. 

The group has filed a petition with Attorney General David Yost's office. 

On January 1, Ohio minimum wage increased 15 cents from $8.55 to $8.70 per hour. Tipped employee say a five cent increase from  $4.30 per hour to $4.35.
