Authorities capture escaped Ohio inmate in West Virginia

OSHP says that 42-year-old Eric Parkins, of Parkersburg, WV, was being held on drug-related charges.

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Authorities in West Virginia have captured a second man who escaped from a correctional facility in Scioto County over the weekend.

Eric Parkins, 42, and Timothy Wesley Moore, 45, escaped the STAR Community Justice Center in Franklin Furnace on Saturday night. Both were at the correctional facility for drug-related charges.

Moore was apprehended by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office quickly after escaping.

On Tuesday, Parkins was taken into custody by the Parkersburg Police Department without incident.

“The timely apprehension of both subjects is a direct reflection of the cohesive efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies. These efforts paired with the information from private citizens has led us to successful apprehensions of both escapees. Everyone’s efforts involved should be commended,” said Lt. J.J. Schuldt with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident remains under investigation.
