MASON, Ohio -- Kings Island took to social media Wednesday afternoon to tease an announcement for the 2019 season.

Kings Island communications director Chad Showalter posted: "Something old will be new again."

The Mason amusement park is inviting media and all park guests to visit the Festhaus for an official announcement event at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16.

Showalter said speculation has been across the board.

Some of the park's Twitter followers have suggested a resurrection of Son of Beast, a record-breaking wooden roller coaster that opened in 2000 as a sequel to one of the park's most well-known attractions, The Beast.

Son of Beast closed in 2012.

Others have a suspicion that the announcement will involve a makeover and reintroduction of the antique cars.

The 2019 season begins next April.

Showalter said he anticipates the announcement will make for a "fantastic season," just as 2018 has been for the park.

Last year the park debuted the Mystic Timbers roller coaster.
