Man allegedly upset by personal issues hit by train

The train conductor advised a person was sitting cross legged on the tracks with his hands over his head prior to being struck.

VERMILION, Ohio --- The Vermilion Police Department was contacted by Norfolk Southern Railroad about 12:24 a.m. today about a person who had been struck by a train by the Grand Street crossing.

The train conductor told police that a person was sitting cross-legged on the tracks with his hands over his head prior to being struck there.

Police say the initial investigation indicates that the man was at Rudy's Bar and Grill prior to being on the railroad tracks and was distraught over recent personal issues.

For the moment, the investigation is being treated as a suicide at this time.

His body was released to the Erie County Coroner pending identification and notification of the next of kin.
