Ohio State Highway Patrol investigating crash that killed 41-year-old man

According to police, alcohol and drugs appear to be a factor in the crash.

WAYNE COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway patrol is investigating a fatal crash that took place in Wayne County on Wednesday. 

According to reports, a 2016 Nissan Versa was traveling South on Interstate 71 around 6:23 p.m. when it went off the right side of the roadway and struck a light pole. 

The car was occupied by two people, 31-year-old Jonathan Jackson and 41-year-old Eric Thomas Coleman.

Jackson, who was driving the car, was transported to Akron General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries  and Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. 

According to officials drugs and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

The fatal accidents caused the southbound lanes of Interstate 71  to be closed for approximately two hours while officials conducted their investigation and the crash was cleared. 

The State Highway Patrol was assisted by Town and Country Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation at this time and no further information  is available.
