MINERAL CITY, Ohio — Amid many inquiries about donations following the deadly I-70 bus crash in Licking County where six people were killed -- including three teens who were riding a charter bus carrying Tuscarawas Valley students and chaperones -- the district has announced the creation of a benefit fund.
In a Facebook post sent on Wednesday, Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools Superintendent Dr. Derek Varansky says the district's "Trojan Foundation" has established a fund at First Federal Community Bank. Donations can be made in two ways:
- Click here for the GoFundMe page; funds will be deposited into the First Federal account
- You can also give your donation at any First Federal Community Branch location
The Trojan Foundation will then distribute funds to those affected. The money will go towards memorial expenses, medical costs, scholarship funds, long-term care support, mental health treatment, and equipment loss.
Six people were killed as a result of the crash.
- Wyatt Mosley, 18, Mineral City
- Jeffery "J.D." Worrell, 18, Bolivar
- Katelyn Owens, 15, Mineral City
- Dave Kennat, 56, Navarre
- Kristy Gaynor, 39, Zoar
- Shannon Wigfield, 45, Bolivar
Officials say the charter bus was rear-ended by a semi-truck. There were 55 people on board, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. In addition to the six killed, 20 students were treated at five different area hospitals.
While investigators begin to piece together the events that led to the crash, students and staff in the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District returned to class on Wednesday.
