MAPLETON, Ohio — Memorial services have been announced for Bre McKean, the Mapleton High School student who died after collapsing on the football field during last Friday's homecoming festivities.
"The family of Bre McKean always knew that Bre was extremely special, but they didn't realize the extent to which so many other people saw Bre as special too. The McKean family would like to express their heartfelt and sincere appreciation to the Mapleton community and beyond for their outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time," the family wrote in a note shared by the Mapleton Local School District.
The memorial service for Bre will be held on Saturday, October 7 at Ashland University's Niss Athletic Center. An "informal fellowship" will take place between 10 a.m. and noon. The memorial service will then start at noon and be officiated by Pastor Richard Grilley of Trinity Baptist Church.
The McKean family is requesting that attendees wear "casual Mapleton Mountie spirit wear, team wear, or red/white/blue." Click here for more information about parking.
Also, the Breanne McKean Memorial Scholarship has been set up through the Ashland County Community Foundation. Click here to make your donations.
