Ohio grocers limiting customer meat purchases as COVID-19 impacts food supply chains

The coronavirus pandemic continues to impact food supply chains.

OHIO, USA — Ohio grocery stores have begin to limit customer meat purchases as the coronvirus outbreak continues to impact food supply chains.

On Friday, Giant Eagle announced that would be implementing a temporary purchasing limit on ground beef an on-sale meat items for all shoppers. The limit allows for only two items per transaction. 

According to or sister station, WBNS-10TV, Kroger is implementing a similar restrictions at their stores. Their limits apply to chicken, ground beef and fresh pork. 

"At Kroger, we feel good about our ability to maintain a broad assortment of meat and seafood for our customers because we purchase protein from a diverse network of suppliers. There is plenty of protein in the supply chain; however, some processors are experiencing challenges.  At this time, in central Ohio we’ve added purchase limits on ground beef, chicken and fresh pork to support responsible shopping. ," said representative for the grocery chain.
