CLEVELAND — We are rapidly approaching one of the most anticipated holidays of the year on the calendar. And although Independence Day will feel different this time around because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it still is important to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the United States on July 4.
With that in mind, WalletHub has come up with a new study looking at which states are the most patriotic in the nation. Ohio ranks high in the survey, checking in at #14 in the U.S.
So how do you measure patriotism?
WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key dimensions, “Military Engagement” and “Civic Engagement.” Those dimensions were evaluated using 13 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the highest level of patriotism.
Some of those metrics included: Average number of military enlistees, veterans per capita, volunteer rate, and percentage of those adults who voted in the 2016 election.
Here are the top 15 patriotic states in the nation:
- New Hampshire
- Wyoming
- Idaho
- Alaska
- Maryland
- Utah
- North Dakota
- Wisconsin
- Minnesota
- South Carolina
- Missouri
- Montana
- Virginia
- Ohio
- Maine
