COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State University has announced the selection of its new president.
The university announced Wednesday morning that Kristina Johnson, the former chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, will start on September 1.
Johnson had been the head of the SUNY system since 2017.
OSU said Johnson's grandfather graduated from Ohio State in 1896 and played on one of the early football teams.
"Ohio State has always been a special place to me – well beyond its standing as one of the most respected teaching, research and patient-care institutions in the world," Johnson said in a statement from the university.
"I am humbled to be selected to lead this great land-grant university, and I look forward to meeting with students, faculty and staff to begin our work together."
Current president Michael Drake announced his retirement last November and had served as president since June 2014.
