Ohio Turnpike reopens near Fremont after semi truck fire

All lanes have reopened after the semi, which was carrying oxygen peroxide, caught fire and forced an area evacuation, OSHP says.

SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio Turnpike has reopened near Fremont and state Route 53 Monday afternoon after a semi truck caught fire, according to a social media update from the Turnpike.

The closures were lifted about five hours after state troopers and area emergency services first responded to the incident in Rice Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the semi was carrying organic peroxide and people within about a half-mile of the fire are being evacuated, mostly nearby County Road 109, due to the load.

No injuries have been reported, according to OSHP. It is unclear at this time what caused the fire.
