Port Clinton Mayor Hugh Wheeler Jr. has declared a state of emergency due to massive flooding in the city.

According to Wheeler, 5.18 inches of rain fell overnight in roughly three hours.

Ninety-five percent of residents woke up to some form of flooding at their home.

The National Weather Service had placed Ottawa County under a flash flood warning until early Wednesday morning, and the area saw a large amount of rainfall overnight. Mayor Wheeler says police have put up numerous barricades.

In addition to Port Clinton, Oak Harbor has also issued a state of emergency, according to Ottawa County EMA services.

At this time, citizens are asked to limit travel, if possible, and proceed with extreme caution.

Mayor Wheeler says of the 14 roads initially closed, Wednesday morning, only two of them remain closed as of Wednesday evening around 5 p.m.
