COLUMBUS, Ohio — Detectives determined that an abduction did not take place when a woman and her two children were reportedly taken from Columbus on Sunday.

The Columbus Division of Police received a call around 11:30 a.m. that the mother and her children were kidnapped at gunpoint near the Van Buren Shelter at 595 Van Buren Dr. The suspects were reportedly armed and traveling in a 2021 black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck with out-of-state plates.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was called to help assist Columbus police in the case.

Troopers spotted a truck matching the description of the suspect's vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 71 in Warren County.

Troopers pulled over the truck and three suspects, two males and one female, surrendered without incident and were taken into custody. A loaded rifle and a loaded handgun were recovered during the traffic stop.

The woman and her two children were removed safely from the vehicle and taken to a local Ohio State Highway Patrol post.

After reviewing evidence and interviewing multiple people, detectives found that the incident was not an abduction. Details on what happened were not provided by police. No charges have been filed.

The incident remains under investigation.
