AKRON, Ohio — The Kaulig Companies Championship, one of five major golf tournaments on the PGA Tour Champions, raised more than $1.3 million for charity this past summer in Akron.
According to both the tour and Kaulig Giving, that's the largest annual charitable total from any professional golf event ever held at Firestone Country Club, which overall has helped raise over $33 million through various golf tournaments held throughout the last four decades. This year's money will benefit more than 30 organizations across Northeast Ohio.
Kaulig Companies Executive Chairman Matt Kaulig released the following statement:
"At Kaulig Companies, we’re making a difference in the lives of children and families in our community. For over 70 years, Firestone Country Club has been a stage for some of the greatest golfers in history and a staple in professional golf.
"But it's more than a tournament, it;s an opportunity to celebrate and give back to Northeast Ohio, which is a part of this event’s legacy. We're proud to be the title sponsor of this tournament and its role in making a lasting and positive impact in our community."
World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els won the event back in July for his first senior major title. The tournament will return to Firestone in 2025 from July 18-22.
