AKRON, Ohio — THANK YOU!
We are thrilled to announce the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank collected $202,000 in donations Thursday during Double Dollar Day.
3News was a partner for the fundraising effort in which all donations were matched up to $115,000 with the help of Beaver Constructors, Inc., The J.M. Smucker Co. and friends of the Foodbank.
Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank officials say that money will provide up to 808,000 meals to families in need within the community. It comes as the Foodbank has noted a 25% increase in new families using their food program.
“As food banks across the country grapple with a significant food donation shortage because of supply chain issues and inflation, funds raised through this match challenge will help us source food for distribution to our network of hunger-relief partners,” Foodbank CEO Dan Flowers said in a previous statement. “As we head into the holiday season, we hope the community will continue to support the Foodbank and our neighbors facing hunger. It’s because of the community’s support that we can make a difference.”
Even though Double Dollar Day is done, you can still donate to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank by CLICKING HERE or calling 330-535-6900. Each $1 donation is enough to provide four meals, according to the Foodbank.
