CLEVELAND — This week, the local nonprofit Coats for Kids Cleveland kicked off its annual effort to provide warm coats to needy children with a free coat distribution at Garfield Elementary School in Cleveland.
The 500+ preK-8th grade students attending the school, a part of Cleveland Metropolitan School District, all received new coats thanks to a partnership between Cleveland-based concrete company Rockport Ready Mix and Coats for Kids.
Rockport Ready Mix also brought a cement truck to the school, so once students received their winter coat, they were able to go outside to see the truck.
This marks the fifth year in a row that “The Gift of Giving” program of Rockport Ready Mix made a monetary donation to Coats for Kids as part of the charity’s School Coat Partnership.
Coats for Kids Cleveland works hard year-round to make sure local children will be warm when cold weather hits. This year it is collaborating with Operation Warm, a national nonprofit, with a goal of distributing 100,000 coats this winter, with funding from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives plus contributions from local foundations, businesses and community supporters.
Contributions from Northeast Ohio residents are needed to help Coats for Kids reach this ambitious goal. If you’d like to help, please donate by clicking here. Or, you can round up your purchase to the nearest dollar when shopping at Discount Drug Mart stores through Nov. 19.
