SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — Update (7/29 at 7 a.m.):
Flood water in Sevier County has receded significantly, according to Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter.
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Food warning for the county Sunday afternoon. After the warning, multiple viewers submitted videos of Dollywood flooding.
McCarter Hollow Road near the park's entrance was closed due to a road collapse and will remain closed until repairs can be made, according to the vice mayor. One minor injury was reported during the flooding.
McCarter said those who live or are staying near Dollywood need to be on the lookout for debris on the road Monday morning.
Previous (7/28 at 8 p.m.):
According to the Pigeon Forge Police Department, McCarter Hollow Road near the entrance to Dollywood has been closed due to a road collapse.
PFPD urged those in the area to seek alternate routes after the road closure.
This collapse came soon after the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood warning for Sevier County on Sunday. After the warning, multiple viewers submitted videos and images of flooding inside the park.
Multiple videos showed water quickly running down walkways at Dollywood, flooding inside stores and even guests wading through knee-deep water in the parking lot.
According to a spokesperson with Dollywood, one minor injury was reported during the flooding.
The Knoxville Police Department also asked drivers to use caution when driving due to standing water.
"And remember, as always, to never drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown," KPD said.
Dollywood released a statement following the flooding inside the park.
"This afternoon, Sunday, July 28, a strong thunderstorm caused flash flooding at Dollywood. With the assistance of Pigeon Forge Police and Fire Departments, park personnel directed guests to safety during the storm. At this time, one minor injury has been reported.
Dollywood is supporting guests whose vehicles were affected by this weather event, and cleanup crews have been deployed. Park officials will continue to assess conditions and determine whether the park will reopen tomorrow as scheduled. Updates will be posted to our social media pages as additional information becomes available."
Sevier County first responders said several roads are also affected because of the weather:
- McCarter Hollow Road at Seaton Springs Road (2313 Seaton Springs Road)
- 1259 McCarter Hollow Road
First responders encourage people to check social media to monitor updates to road closures as the night progresses.
