STREETSBORO, Ohio — Four dogs and two cats were killed in a fire that took place on Thursday morning at a mobile home in Streetsboro.
According to a Facebook post by the Streetsboro Fire Department, at approximately 8:20 a.m., crews were called to the Camelot Village Mobile Home Park on North Sagramore Road for a report of smoke coming from one of the mobile homes.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from three sides of the home. A neighbor told firefighters that a number of pets were inside, leading to multiple attempts to get them out of the burning area. Crews discovered fire in the kitchen near the stove that extended up a wall. The fire was put out and the structure was ventilated, leading to the incident being declared under control just after 8:45 a.m.
Unfortunately, while crews were able to bring the family pets outside, they were not able to resuscitate the four dogs and two cats. One pet snake survived and was removed by the homeowner.
Streetsboro fire officials say an investigation into the cause of the fire "points to combustibles on or close to the stove that were ignited when the stove was possibly turned on accidentally." Pending further investigation with the homeowner’s insurance company, this fire is ruled accidental in nature.
Damage to the mobile home and its contents is estimated at $9,000.
