Children, adults taken to hospital from Happy Day School

A camper turned off a pool pump and then, when it was turned back on, some of those near the pool got sick.

RAVENNA -- We have an udpate to a developing story out of Portage County, where 6 children and two adults have been taken to an area hospital.

The Portage County Sheriff's Office told WKYC that the children appear to have been sickened after swimming in a pool at that facility.

The sickness appears to be chlorine-related.

"A camper turned off a pool pump and then, when it was turned back on, some of those near the pool got sick. They were alert when they left, " says Dan Reynolds, of the Akron YMCA. This is a summer camp through the Akron Rotary. The camp is at Happy Day School in Ravenna.

The Sheriff's Office has not released any more details about the incident.

Happy Day School, located at 2500 Brady Lake Road in Ravenna, is run by the Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities for special needs children.

It provides early intervention services, preschool and school age special education services and related services, according to its website.
