Kent State shelter-in-place order lifted 'with caution' amid report of armed robbery suspect on campus

The suspect is described as a 'thin' male wearing a black shirt that says 'Cookies' on the front in white writing, along with jeans and red undershorts.

KENT, Ohio — Kent State University has lifted "with caution" a shelter-in-place order on its main campus amid an ongoing report of an armed robbery suspect in the area.

A KSU alert sent out Saturday night described the suspect as a "thin" male wearing a black shirt that says "Cookies" on the front in white writing, along with jeans and red undershorts. Kent police later confirmed the man allegedly pulled a gun on a clerk at Flash Vapes on East Main Street while demanding money and merchandise before fleeing.

Though the suspect has not yet been located, officials decided to lift the order after police searched all campus buildings. Law enforcement will continue to have an increased presence inside occupied residence halls.

Kent's campus is not currently at full capacity following the conclusion of spring classes earlier this month, and the summer semester is not expected to begin for a little over a week. However, some students are still staying in dorms or at nearby apartments during the intersession period.

Anyone who sees the suspect is urged to immediately call either 911 or the Kent Police Department (330) 673-7732.
