KENT, Ohio — Editor's note: The video above is from a previous story.
In a letter today to students, faculty and staff, Kent State University announced that they will no longer be requiring face masks on-campus.
According to University officials, the school came to this decision based on the recent changes in CDC recommendations and from consultation with medical and public health experts from the Kent City Health Department, the DeWeese Health Center and Kent State University's College of Public Health.
While the policy change will affect indoor classrooms, dormitories and administrative buildings, face masks will still be required in all healthcare facilities on any campus locations.
Should new more severe variants emerge or COVID-19 cases spike in the community, the University said that they may require indoor masks again.
To go along with the change in face mask policy, Kent State is no longer requiring quarantining for those who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 regardless of vaccination status.
