HIRAM, Ohio — An investigation is under way following the discovery of a newborn baby's body inside a college bathroom dorm last Friday.
Police say the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has completed an autopsy on the infant found on the campus of Hiram College. According to Hiram Police Chief Brian Gregory, the report is not expected to be available for another six to eight weeks.
Authorities also confirm they have identified a "person of interest" in regards to the child's death. However, no criminal charges have been filed at this time and the person's name is not being released.
The body was found inside a trash bag Friday morning, according to the Ohio Attorney General's Office. The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting Hiram Village police and the Portage County Prosecutor's Office to find out what happened.
Hiram College released the following statement Friday:
"As the investigation proceeds, it is our priority to do whatever we can to ensure the health and safety of the members of the community and any others who may have been involved. The College is offering professional and ministerial counseling to those who are interested in these services."
