Portage County Sheriff's Office: Missing teen leads deputy on chase with stolen vehicle

The driver and a male passenger were arrested following the chase. A female passenger fled from officers on foot and has not been arrested.

PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio — Two teens are in custody after they led a Portage County Sheriff's deputy on a chase with a stolen vehicle over the weekend.

On Sunday, a deputy ran a registration check on a vehicle while on patrol in the city of Kent. Through this registration check, the vehicle was found to have been reported as stolen.

When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off eastbound on Main Street into Franklin Township. The deputy stopped the pursuit as it continued near Ravenna due to the dangerous speed the driver of the vehicle was reaching.

The pursuit was picked up again once when another deputy on patrol in Ravenna saw the vehicle. The suspect then fled at a high rate of speed after seeing the deputy. The suspect led the pursuit back into Franklin Township before entering Kent again.

As the vehicle attempted to navigate an intersection at Main Street and Luther Avenue, it struck multiple stopped cars at the intersection on Main Street.

Two males and one female exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The 17-year-old male driver and 18-year-old male passenger were both quickly caught and arrested. The 17-year-old was previously reported missing out of Wooster. He is currently being held at he Portage County Juvenile Detention Center on multiple charges.

The 18-year-old is being held at the Portage County Jail on a count of obstructing official business.

The female passenger was able to elude officers and remains at large. Deputies are currently trying to identify her.
