RAVENNA, Ohio — A Ravenna woman is facing charges after allegedly starting a fire in her apartment building in Portage County on Sunday.
After receiving reports of a fire at 629 Hazen Ave. in Ravenna, officers evacuated numerous residents. While responding, police found a woman who had burns and cuts on her arms.
The Ravenna Police Department Detective Bureau responded to the scene to interview the woman and witnesses. According to Ravenna police, the injured woman made comments to officers about "Trump and Biden sending people to kill her.”
EMS transported the woman to UHPMC, where detectives spoke with her.
During the interview, the resident, 64-year-old Gina Parnell, admitted to "starting the fire in the middle of her living room, opening a sliding glass door and watching the fire spread throughout the building."
In addition, the detective bureau interviewed 10 other residents and a neighbor who were present at the time of the fire.
Parnell is currently being treated for injuries and is facing charges of aggravated arson.
At this time, the State Fire Marshall and Ravenna Police are investigating the incident.
