RAVENNA, Ohio -- Two teens are currently in custody after officials placed Ravenna High School on lockdown Friday morning.
According to a statement from the Ravenna Police Department, the school went into lockdown around 8:07 a.m. after a "concerned citizen" informed authorities about social media postings made by a current student at the school. The student wrote that they were planning on bringing a firearm to school and harming others.
The student and another juvenile—who is not a member of the school—where later located in a bathroom, with the student being placed into custody after a brief struggle and the non-student fleeing the scene before being located shortly thereafter. No weapons were found at the scene, and the lockdown was later lifted as students were released to their parents.
Superintendent Dennis Honkala issued the following statement on Facebook as the incident was still ongoing:
As some of you may be aware, this morning there was a situation at Ravenna High School that required us to lean on our training and conduct a lockdown for students and staff.
No one was injured. No one is in danger.
The police are in the process of clearing the building. As soon as we are able, we will send out an All Call with an update as well as update everyone here on Facebook.
