Tackling crime with the help of Twitter, the Streetsboro Police Department utilized social media Friday to offer a virtual ridealong to people living in the community.
Police protect, serve and do so much more than many people realize, which is why Police Chief Roy Mosley wanted to use social media as a tool to allow the public a glimpse behind the scenes.
"Our department makes a pretty conscious effort to reach out to the community to engage with them," explained Mosley.
"We thought this would be a way to let our residents know what the officers are doing day to day out on patrol."
Channel 3's A.J. Ross tagged along with Officer Arthur Milner during several traffic stops.
"When we pull somebody over a lot of times they think we're just out to get them when in reality we're just trying to keep everybody on the road safe," explained Milner.
"Police officers do more than just arrest the bad guys or write speeding tickets. We try to help a lot of people out too," he said.
The virtual ridealong/tweetalong initiative kicked off at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon and continued through 9 p.m.
Mosley says with enough positive feedback, the department will likely offer more virtual ridealongs in the future.
