ERIE COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — A 79-year-old man has died as authorities say he was struck by a vehicle after he reportedly tripped while crossing the roadway in Erie County on Tuesday night.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it happened around 8:42 p.m. as Roger Fox of Sandusky was walking eastbound across US 250 outside of the marked crosswalk just south of Route 2.
Fox tripped on the partitions on the center line and fell into the northbound lane. Authorities say Fox was unable to get out of the roadway before he was struck by a 2011 Chrysler 200.
The driver of the Chrysler -- a 20-year-old man from Sandusky -- was not hurt.
Authorities say neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in the incident, which remains under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says they were assisted at the scene by the Perkins Township Police Department, Perkins Township Fire and EMS, Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the Erie County Coroner.
