On Thursday, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley announced that a Cleveland man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for a violent attack that took place on July 4, 2020.

According to officials, Sean Corrigan, 24, will serve nearly three decades for killing a 56-year-old man, as well as the shooting of a 59-year-old man and the pistol-whipping of a 57-year-old woman.

“This is sadly another tragic example of the senseless gun violence that is plaguing our community,” said Prosecutor O’Malley.

The incidents happened during a cookout on West 152nd Street in Cleveland last July when Corrigan, who was intoxicated, became aggressive with others. The 56-year-old victim asked Corrigan to calm down, which led to Corrigan shooting him multiple times in the chest and hand.

Corrigan then shot the other male victim in the back and pistol-whipped the woman.

Cleveland police officers arrested the man and EMS transported the three victims to the hospital, where, the 56-year-old was pronounced dead.

Eyewitness testimony and an investigation done by the Cleveland Division of Police's Homicide Unit corroborated evidence recovered from the scene.

Corrigan pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of attempted murder and one count of felonious assault.
